Eight Sundays of Easter

Easter is far from over on Easter Sunday. Easter Season lasts 50 days (longer than the 40 days of Lent!). Indeed, every Sunday of the year is a mini-Easter when we celebrate the new life we have in Jesus Christ. Easter season concludes with Pentecost.

So, what is Pentecost? Pentecost is recalls the story in Acts 2, after Jesus' dying on the cross and being raised from the dead and returning to Heaven. Jesus' followers were told to return to  Jerusalem and wait. They gathered and prayed together daily. At one such gathering, the Holy Spirit, God's presence, entered into the room and rested on each person, appearing as a flame of fire. Most of Jesus' followers were from a small region known as Galilee and were not well educated or traveled. Through the gift of the Spirit they were suddenly able to speak in all the languages of the people who lived in Jerusalem. This allowed them to communicate with people who they had not been able to talk with before.

Pentecost is considered the "Birthday" of the church because through the Spirit, God's message is able to go out to all the world, and more and  more people can become part of the church through the Spirit's work. We celebrate our empowerment through God's Spirit by remembering this powerful encounter of the early followers, by wearing red and other bright colors symbolizing the flame, and giving thanks for the Spiritual gifts that God has given us to use to serve our brothers and sisters.

Personal  Worship

We can pray and praise God in all times and places. Healthy spiritual life includes worship together, and worship alone.

Personal time with God is an important part of daily life. Getting to know God includes reading from the Bible, prayer, and listening for God's wisdom and direction throughout the day.

Family Worship

Children learn from the living patterns of the adults they live with! Including prayer before meals, before bed time, or at other special times of day will help your child develop spiritual habits that will strengthen them throughout life.
